What to Expect

While in short term therapy (10-20 sessions) we may focus on one or two key issues; in longer term work, there’s an opportunity to deeply transform fundamental patterns of thinking and relating, allowing a renewed sense of self to emerge and flourish.

In your first session, I’ll ask some questions in order to understand what’s brought you to therapy and what your aims are. It’s OK to not exactly know – for some people, it’s just a sense of things not being ‘right’ that brings them into the room. For others, it’s a crisis point or transition of some sort. Some people have a sense that they want to work on themselves, or to feel more alive in some way.

We’ll also take some time in the first couple of sessions to talk about your background, and what it was like in your family. I might ask about key relationships, and how they impacted you. I’ll discuss my initial thoughts on our focus and suggest a treatment plan. This is a collaborative process, and we’ll likely re-work and refine it together.

We may toggle back and forth between your present concerns and earlier relationships, as together we explore what’s made you, you. Therapy can sometimes feel like work as we encounter difficult feelings, and I aim to provide a safe, supportive and collaborative space.

Slowly, patterns and insights emerge in the therapy, which feed back into your life, allowing you to try out new and more expansive ways of being.

Therapy Approach

I provide a compassionate and inclusive space to explore your concerns. I work with psychodynamic principles, which means exploring the ways in which the past has impacted your present experience. I can help you to navigate challenges and conflicts, and to get in touch with the lesser-known parts of yourself, to help you experience a more free, fulfilling and authentic life.

Consistency creates a secure foundation for our work together. To create the best conditions for long term change, we aim to meet weekly.
Please note my approach is generally not suitable for those wanting support with addiction, or for people under 18 years of age.

Ethical Practice

To maintain quality and integrity, I undertake regular supervision and ongoing professional development. I operate under the ethical codes of my professional associations. For more information see:
